Prince George, eldest son Prince William and Kate Middleton made a record in the history of New Zealand. For the first time in 170 years, New Zealand Post will issue special stamps to commemorate the birth of the royal baby.
New Zealand Post revealed that previous royal children had appeared in the form of stamps, but this is the first time there is a special issue to commemorate the birth.
Prince George with her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appear in the stamp. As quoted from page TVNZ, photos used for stamps is a photograph taken outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, London, a day after George was born on 23 July.
"The birth of Prince George is a global event and New Zealand are very excited to welcome his arrival, so of course he deserves to have its own stamps," said New Zealand Post spokesman, Simon Allison.
Limited edition coins will also be issued in connection with the royal birth.
"After the Prince was reported to have been born, we immediately worked to execute a plan to resolve the issue stamps and coins," added Allison.
According to the New Zealand Post, the Queen, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge "personally approved" photo used.
The stamps and coins became available since 11 September. (*)
