Today (March 17, 2015) the Duke and 
Duchess of Cambridge attended a St. Patrick’s Day Parade with the 1st 
Battalion Irish Guards at Mons Barracks in Aldershot. Prince William is 
Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment. Kate presented sprigs of shamrock to 
officers and guardsmen, a century old tradition started by Queen 
Alexandra in 1901 and later carried out by the Queen Mother.
