This morning (June 10, 2014) the Duchess of Cambridge visited the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich to meet supporters of the UK's bid to sail in the next America's Cup race. While she was there, Kate met crew members, boat designers, and saw an America's Cup class boat.
Olympic sailor Ben Ainslie is leading the bid to enter a British team
in the 35th annual race that will be held in 2017. The first America's
Cup was established in 1851 for the winner of a race around the Isle of
Wight and was witnessed by Queen Victoria.
