Sydney Royal Easter Show

On Friday, April 18, 2014, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Sydney Royal Easter Show in Olympic Park. The show is Australia’s largest annual event, attracting 900,000 people who celebrate Australian culture. It was first held in 1823, with Queen Victoria awarding the show the right to use the word "Royal" in its name.

At the sheep arena, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were introduced to Fred, a fine wool merino ram, who is something of a local celebrity. Both gave him a stroke – Kate more gingerly than William – and laughed when Fred bowed to them by bending his front legs.

Three Sisters & Katoomba Visit

On Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2014, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Three Sisters, a famous rock formation in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. They also stopped in the nearby town of Katoomba, where they were introduced to three Aboriginal elders who represented the Indigenous landowners of Echo Point. The elders presented William and Kate with a kangaroo skin cloak and a smaller possum cloak for Prince George.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stopped by the town of Katoomba, where they were introduced to three Aboriginal elders who represented the Indigenous landowners of Echo Point. The elders presented William and Kate with a kangaroo skin cloak and a smaller possum cloak for Prince George.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled to the Blue Mountains area in New South Wales. They met victims and first responders of last year's devastating bush fires in Winmalee.

Afterwards, they joined a group of Girl Guides in planting a flowering gum, a native Australian tree, as a symbol of regeneration in the bush fire affected area.

Wellington, New Zealand Departure

On Wednesday afternoon (April 16, 2014), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince George, departed Wellington, New Zealand on a Royal Australian Air Force plane for bound for Sydney, Australia. The family spent 9 days touring New Zealand and will now spend 10 days visiting Australia.

And they're off! The Cambridges have departed New Zealand and will arrive in Australia in about three hours.

Sydney Opera House Reception

On Wednesday afternoon (April 16, 2014), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince George, arrived in Sydney, Australia, on a Royal Australian Air Force plane from Wellington, New Zealand. The family had spent 9 days touring New Zealand; they will now spend 10 days visiting Australia.

 
 Upon their arrival in Sydney, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge proceeded to the Sydney Opera House for a welcome reception with 400 invited dignitaries.
