The Duchess Of Cambridge Gives Evening Dressing A Modern Twist

IF this week has taught us anything, it is this: The Duchess of Cambridge can meet – and rise above - any sartorial challenge with style and grace. Her final lesson being the mastering of the cool cocktail look.

Last night she stepped out in Berlin wearing a teal, navy, grey and black dress by German-born, London-based designer Markus Lupfer whilst visiting the Clärchens Ballhaus in the Mitte district. She teamed her bird-printed dress with her new favourite Prada wave strap sandals; a chainmail belt which elegantly cinched in the neat shift dress at the waist, and a diamond-patterned silver clutch bag.

Her dress selection proves her style credentials too, for Lupfer's pre-autumn/winter 2017 collection is yet to go on sale. Similar styles are on his website, and a blouse and skirt in a brighter version of this print are available at Farfetch.com, but otherwise this is a first.

The elegant look also mirrors the way she started her diplomatic tour: paying tribute with her ensemble to the nation she is a guest of. On her first night in Poland, she wore a bespoke dress by Polish designer Gosia Baczynska, which proved to be a modern marvel. Choosing Lupfer’s design for the Berlin leg of her journey speaks volumes as to the ultimate aim of the trip: that of promoting a good relationship between Britain and Germany; Lupfer being born and raised in Germany, but trained and based in London.

Kate Middleton Rocked This Red Summer Party Dress

We’re copying Kate’s style for our remaining (maybe not as lavish) summer events. Some cheaper alternatives, ranked from affordable to mega splurge.

Last Wednesday, the Duchess chose a fire-engine-red off-the-shoulder maxi by Alexander McQueen (the design house that made her unforgettable wedding gown) for a garden party in Berlin. She completed the head-turning look with a pair of statement earrings and cream Prada shoes.

Although the Duchess usually opts for looks that are more timeless, this dress definitely veers into trendy territory with its Bardot neckline. But that maxi hemline and loose silhouette gives it a hit of breezy class. If you love this look but aren’t prepared to spend roughly two thousand dollars to copy it, we understand. Click through this collection of equally bold and pretty alternatives to Kate’s outfit, ranked from cheapest to major splurge.

The Duchess of Cambridge's Daring New Approach To Diplomatic Dressing

Some may say the Duchess of Cambridge's wardrobe - whilst diplomatically strong and stable - is a bit staid. She knows the designers she likes and trusts and relies on them heavily for official occasions (and who could blame her?) However, her evening ensemble in Poland last night proves she still has the element of sartorial surprise firmly within her grasp.

Attending a party at the British ambassador to Poland's residence in honour of The Queen's birthday, the Duchess chose striking, white mid-length cocktail dress with architectural black detailing by popular Polish designer Gosia Baczynska.

Black-edged pleats brought a graphic quality, while a floral black appliqué detail at the waist softened the look.

The deep V-neckline delicate framed her contemporary pearl necklace - the same she first debuted during a visit to Paris in March this year - and also marks the second rather more risque neckline to be worn by the Duchess of late. Last week she chose a plunging Marchesa gown - a marked departure from the conservative necklines she usually favours for evening events - whilst hosting Spain's Queen Letizia and King Felipe at Buckingham Palace.

Finishing off her get-up, the Duchess wore her hair tied up in a neat, but low chignon, all hair swept back from her face, and a pair of chic black heels with straps around her ankles. It is believed this was a bespoke creation for the Duchess, organised by her stylist, Natasha Archer, based upon a dress from Baczynska's autumn/winter 2016/17 collection. Baczynska was in attendance to see her design take centre stage.
