The Duke of Cambridge is Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Navy Submarine Service and tour the offices of Vanguard replacement programme in Barrow.

THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge braved the bitter cold to attend the opening of an outdoor centre in Scotland today.

The Duchess of Cambridge appears to be carving a niche as a specialist in engagements in the freezing cold. Only weeks after mucking in at a snowy scout camp in Cumbria, today she braved sub-zero temperatures to help open an outdoor centre in Ayrshire.

The Duchess, Prince William and Prince Charles officially opened the Tamar Manoukian Outdoor Centre, where they were greeted by hundreds of local people and 600 members of the youth groups that use the facilities.

The centre is based at Dumfries House, where Prince Charles has led a regeneration project since 2007.

The Duchess, dressed in a red Armani coat and a yellow tartan scarf with black tights, boots and gloves, smiled as 11-year-old well-wisher Dayna Miller showed her a “Princess Catherine” doll that her mother had given her as a Christmas present.

“She looked at it and she said ‘does my hair look like that?’” said Dayna, of Coylton. She added: “Kate’s much prettier than the doll.”

Among the groups at today’s event were the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade and the Sea, Army and Air Cadets.

The Prince, known as the Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland, created the umbrella organisation Youth United in 2009 to promote the young people’s associations.

Rod Jarman, Youth United’s chief executive, said it aimed to ensure that membership of at least one group was available to every young person in the UK. A particular focus is on deprived areas.

Northern Scotland’s most senior sea cadet, Hannah Strachan, 17, from Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, met Charles and William. “They were really friendly,” she said. “I think it’s great they came today, it shows that they know we are here.”

Stephen Kay, head of education and training at Dumfries House, said: “It’s all part of the Prince’s vision of getting people out and into activities.

“To have him and the Duke and Duchess here today has been great. The young people have got the chance to see there’s a lot of interest in what we’re doing here.”

Catherine, Countess of Strathearn visits the Astute-class Submarine Building at BAE Systems

The visit ended with a flypast by two Typhoons of 6 squadron RAF Leuchars, the base near St Andrews where Kate and William met as university students.

The couple then went to Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, where they met the crew of the Royal Navy’s Astute Class nuclear submarine Artful.

Pregnant Kate Middleton and Prince William, loved-up in Glasgow.

Kate, 31, and her RAF search and rescue pilot husband arrived in Scotland today (4 April'13) for their first official visit to Glasgow, which kicked off with a visit to the Emirates Arena Leisure Centre.

Kate Middleton was happy to talk to the public about her upcoming due date as she accompanied Prince William on a visit to Glasgow this week.

During a visit to a Quarriers homeless shelter in the city centre, Kate Middleton spoke to the charity's project manager, Rachel Sawyer confirming that the royal baby's due date is mid-July.

In response to questions about the royal baby, the Duchess of Cambridge replied, "It's around mid-July but apparently babies have their own agenda..."

What exactly does that mean?

Anyway the Duchess also revealed that she's already compiled a shortlist of names for the future King/Queen.

"We have a shortlist for both [boys and girls names] but it's very difficult."

The royal also revealed her friends have been sending their suggestions via text messages and told well-wishers that she'll be going on maternity leave from royal duties in June.

Mum-to-be Kate looked as radiant as ever, and at one point was seen giving her husband a loving glance as they sat in the seating at the stadium.

Kate went for another gorgeously simple, yet elegant ensemble as the expectant parents toured the facility, which will play host to events in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014.

And fashion fans take note, the coat is from Moloh and costs £425. Despite the hefty price tag and fact we're (supposedly) heading into summer, we're betting this one will be a sell-out!

Kate and William, who are known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, have a busy day ahead: after their Emirates visit they will go to the Quarriers Stopover project, which helps young single homeless people between the ages of 16-25.

Around 400 youngsters and 100 volunteers from the Scouts, Boys' Brigade, Guides, Girls' Brigade, Police Service, Fire Service, RNLI, Sea Cadets, Air Cadets and Army Cadets across Ayrshire are expected to demonstrate their skills to the visitors.

The visit will be marked by a fly-past of three Typhoons from RAF Leuchars, a base close to St Andrews University, where William and Kate first met as students.

They both graduated in 2005 with a 2:1. William has a degree in geography while Kate graduated in history of art.

As they toasted their bread, Kate was in hysterics at the state of some of her fellow volunteers' bread. Her twist looked much better and she kept offering it out, joking, "You're welcome to try some".

Eventually Kate decided to try some herself. "Oh it's actually not bad...if you were desperately hungry." She added, "It's quite sugary."

Kate Middleton And Prince William Visit Families At Child Bereavement Charity UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hugged and kissed eight parents who have lost sons and daughters during an emotionally-charged visit to the Child Bereavement UK charity.

The Duke also told a group of bereaved children that he empathised with them because he had been "in similar circumstances" when his mother Diana, Princess of Wales died in 1997. The 30-year-old Duke, who is patron of the charity, held a 15-minute private meeting with eight parents who told him and the Duchess about their children's deaths during a group counselling session.

During their two-hour visit to the charity's offices in Saunderton, Bucks., the Duchess, in a black short-sleeved Topshop shift dress and a cream coat by Goat, talked to teenagers and younger children going through the grieving process.

The Duke told them: "You realise I've been in similar circumstances."

William Howitt, aged eight, gave the Duke, who became patron of the charity in 2009, some brightly coloured felt material which reminded him of his father Bruce, who died last year. His mother Lorna, who was also there with her daughters Georgina, six, and Beatrice, three, said: "They have been so excited, particularly the girls, meeting a real prince and princess. Really it helped."

The ever fashionable mom-to-be, who attended the event with her hubby Prince William, sported a green Emilia Wickstead dress coat (the same one she wore at the event last year), a gold shamrock on her lapel, a black hat and Emmy black pumps.

Middleton, who is five months pregnant, has yet to reveal the sex of the couple's baby, but reportedly chatted with a soldier at the event, dishing on whether she and Prince William were hoping for a boy or a girl.

But, thankfully, she was easily able to bend down, pull her shoe out and get back to her duties at the event—presenting sprigs of shamrocks to the 1st Battalion Irish Guards.
