After four days of celebration, admiration, and thanks for HM Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years on the throne, the Diamond Jubilee came to a close today. In the morning the Queen arrived to chants of “God save the Queen!” for a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The service was attended by members of government both domestic and
foreign, military leaders, members of the royal household and most
members of her extended family. The senior royals then split up for
lunch at separate events before riding in a royal procession back to
Buckingham Palace. With her husband in the hospital the Queen rode in an
open-topped coach with TRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
TRH the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry followed in a
coach of their own. The royal procession was led down The Mall by
military cavalry with thousands of cheering people lining the streets.
Following the procession, the senior members of the royal family
appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony to deafening cheers from the
crowd. They were is high spirits and excitedly waved, seeming to enjoy
their time watching the RAF flypast which marked the end of the Jubilee
celebrations. Having stayed silent while the country heaped praise on
her, Her Majesty is set to give an address to the Commonwealth in the evening. She is set to thank the nation for the outpouring of support.
