Kate, Prince William in Singapore for Diamond Jubilee.

BRITAIN'S Prince William and his wife Catherine were greeted by crowds of cheering well-wishers today as they arrived in Singapore at the start of an Asia-Pacific tour. The royal and her husband Britain's Prince William will act as representatives of Queen Elizabeth II on the nine-day tour to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.

The glamorous royal couple went from Singapore's airport to the city-state's Botanic Gardens for their first engagement of their nine-day visit, which will also take in Malaysia, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.

The young royal couple arrived in Singapore to attend an orchid-naming ceremony where they admired a white flowering plant named after the late Princess Diana. The pair were also shown a pink orchid called Vanda William Catherine, named after themselves.

The royal made the comments during a visit to the Gardens by the Bay attraction in Singapore, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are making an official visit. Corine Ackermann, 17, who was there with friends from the Tanglin Trust British School, told The Sun: "Someone asked him how many children he would like to have, and he said he was thinking about having two."

During the royal couple's first engagement, they paid looked at an orchid named in honour of Prince William's late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, at Singapore's Botanic Gardens. They paused next to the white bloom, which William later described as "beautiful".

Catherine has become known for her ever-elegant style, and the brunette beauty didn't disappoint as she touched down in Singapore. The star reportedly commissioned UK designer Jenny Packham to design the Asian-influenced dress.

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge wowed in a kimono-style dress by Jenny Packham as she arrived in Singapore for the beginning of her tour around Asia today. The knee-skimming pale pink ensemble also features an orchid pattern which "symbolises the fact that the royal couple will be visiting the Singapore Botanical Gardens, to view an orchid designed for William's mother the Princess of Wales," writes UK publication Grazia. Catherine wore her long locks in her signature half-up half-down style and accessorised with a cream clutch bag.
